Col John W. Arnold, US Army (Ret) passed away on March 23, 2006 in San Antonio. Col Arnold was born February 5, 1929 and grew up in Palo Alto, California. He graduated from Stanford University in 1951.

Col Arnold received a masters’ degree from Baylor University in 1969.

He served 27 years in the US Army Medical Service Corps, receiving the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, and other service medals. He retired in 1978 to accept a position with the Sisters of Charity Health Care System in Houston. He remained with the corporation for 13 years, retiring to San Antonio in 1990.

Col Arnold continued to serve on the Governing Boards of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Houston and St. John Hospital in Nassau Bay until 1995.

He was active with Holy Spirit Catholic Church and Alamo Heights Rotary Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Joyce; and his three daughters: Kimberly Zimmerman of Manvel, Kristen Arnold of Maxwell, and Jennifer Mazdra of Beaumont; eight grandchildren: Megan Halsey, Kayla and Cody Zimmerman, Marc and Emma Arnold, Sterling and William Oliver, and Cole Mazdra.

Pallbearers will be James Hayes, James Stubblefield, Thomas Korte, Joseph DePonte, Thomas Ozgo and John Bales.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Alamo Heights Rotary Club or the Assistance League of San Antonio (Togs for Tots).
