Detective Mario Moreno of the San Antonio Police Department died courageously in the line of duty on September 21, 2007.
Mario was born on July 22, 1970 in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from McCollum High School, Mario enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm and completed 4 years of honorable service. Mario’s life ambition was to “give back to his community” of San Antonio. While completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Wayland Baptist University, Mario joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1996. He was recently promoted to detective in June 2007.
Mario was a devoted and loving husband, father, son and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Alena Moreno, two wonderful children Nicholas Moreno (age 8) and Elizabeth Moreno (age 4), father Juan Moreno and mother Silvia Moreno, father-in-law Ales Vyzralek, mother-in-law Jitka Vyzralkova, brothers and sisters, Marisela, Miguel, Elizabeth, Lionel, Luis, sisters-in-law Lada and Jitka, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Detective Moreno’s family at the San Antonio City Employees Federal Credit Union at (210) 229-1128. Donations can be made to account number 745320 Detective Moreno Memorial Fund.
A vigil will be held for the public on September 26, 2007 beginning at 7:00pm at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
Funeral and Memorial Services will be held on September 27, 2007 at 10:00am at Community Bible Church, 2477 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
The family wishes to convey their gratitude to the University Hospital medical personnel and SAPD for their professionalism and service.
